Will Vollering crown herself as record holder in De Brabantse Pijl?

Road  07/04/2023

On Wednesday 12 April, the women’s peloton will be back in Lennik for a new edition of De Brabantse Pijl. According to the provisional start list, defending champion Demi Vollering will be taking on the likes of Silvia Persico and Shirin van Anrooij. If she wins again, the Dutch rider of Team SD Worx can call herself record holder of De Brabantse Pijl.

Demi Vollering was victorious in Overijse last year after an amazing solo of ten kilometres. The Dutch rider, who won Dwars door Vlaanderen in a similar fashion this season, will again be at the start of the Flemish spring closing race this year. The runner-up of this year’s Tour of Flanders is supported at Team SD Worx by Marlen Reusser, winner of Gent-Wevelgem and fourth in De Brabantse Pijl last year.

Competition for Vollering comes, among others, from the camp of Trek - Segafredo, which is counting on the duo Lucinda Brand - Shirin van Anrooij. Van Anrooij achieved her first World Tour victory this season with the Trofeo Alfredo Binda. Last year, the Dutch rider stranded in fifteenth place in De Brabantse Pijl.

The French formation FDJ – Suez counts on Marta Cavalli. The Italian was good for second place in 2019. In the camp of Team Jumbo-Visma we find the name of a debutant: Fem van Empel. The Dutch cyclo-cross world champion is joined by Anna Henderson.

Canyon//SRAM Racing brings forward Pauliena Rooijakkers. The Dutch rider finished in the top ten in each of the last two years. At Movistar Team Women, they are hoping for a good performance from Liane Lippert. The German champion was second in 2020 and completed last year's podium. Team Jayco Alula counts on Kristen Faulkner, who finished eleventh in her only previous participation in De Brabantse Pijl. She is joined by the Australian Ruby Roseman-Gannon.

At UAE Team ADQ, all eyes are on Silvia Persico, who was good for seventh place last year and fourth place at the Tour of Flanders this year. AG Insurance – Soudal Quick-Step descends on Lennik with Justine Ghekiere and Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio. In February, the Belgian won the Volta Comunitat Valenciana Fèmines.

We will find out who will be celebrating victory on Wednesday 12 April on the Brusselsesteenweg in Overijse at around 14:15. Discover the provisionel start list here.
