Sofie De Vuyst (Parkhotel Valkenburg) won her first professional victory in Gooik. In the sprint, the Belgian was faster than the Italian Marta Cavalli and the American Coryn Rivera.
During their Brabantse Pijl, the women were confronted with 137 km in and around Gooik, with six hills and four passes over the Schavolliestraat cobblestones on the programme. After only 20 km, a leading group of 11 riders formed during the local legs in Beersel. Sofie De Vuyst made a break for an early lead. However, the peloton did not allow them to get away with it, and was able to catch up with the leaders again.
After the six hills, the peloton set off in and around Beersel on a course towards Gooik, where a new leading group was formed. Almost all the important names were in the front, only Marianne Vos (third last year) missed her chance. She tried to make a comeback, but her efforts were in vain.
In the end, there was a sprint for the victory. Sofie De Vuyst clearly had the fastest legs in the race. She stayed ahead of the Italian champion Marta Cavalli and the American Coryn Rivera, former Tour of Flanders winner. It is the first professional victory for the rider from Herzele.
